Seria inevitável. Por muito que tente adiar as músicas mais óbvias, é certo que elas começam a aparecer mais cedo ou mais tarde. E também, porquê estar a guardar o melhor para o fim quando o fim pode ser a qualquer momento?
Já tinha um fascínio por Therion devido à música Black, que aparecia na compilação Death... Is Just The Beginning Part III - como já referi na crítica que fiz a esta compilação no meu sítio secreto - mas quando ouvi este To Mega Therion na compilação Beauty In Darkness, fiquei completamente... WOW!
O extremismo dos Therion do início da década de 90 já estava aqui completamente diluído e a única coisa que temos desses tempos é a voz de rafeiro de Christofer Jonhsson, em menores quantidades claro. Por outro lado, a vertente mais tradicional começa a tornar-se mais constante, com uma profunda raiz neo-clássica - a lembrar as experiências de Ritchie Blackmore - muito graças à interacção entre as guitarras, piano, orquestração e coros. Massivo e revolucionário. Isto numa altura em que não era moda gravar com orquestras e lançar álbuns/espectáculos com muito marketing por trás mas infelizmente, em alguns casos, pouco contéudo musical relevante. Therion ou Christofer - já que ele é o único membro fundador e sem dúvida a alma da banda - lançou o álbum Theli de onde foi retirado este clássico numa altura em que considerava acabar com tudo devido aos fracos resultados de vendas. Por casmurrice e por acreditar naquilo que gosta, decidiu gravar o álbum preparado para depois se "reformar", não tendo feito qualquer plano posterior. To Mega Therion arrebentou, o álbum também - que vendeu como gingas, e ele viu-se obrigado a arranjar uma banda à última da hora para levar o álbum em tour. Esta música é o exemplo máximo deste álbum:
Melodia, peso e sobretudo um espírito metal neo-clássico muito bem vincado e conseguido. Com alguns clichês musicais mas é essa simplicidade e eficiência que faz com que esta música fique gravada na história do metal.
Um dos poucos casos em que a letra não tem importância nenhuma para mim, não que sejam interessantes - das poucas bandas que tem sempre o mesmo (com alguns ajustes ao longo do caminho, claro) tema nas suas letras, o ocultismo presente nas tradições mais antigas das culturas conhecidas.
